The Original Design: Beechcraft mounts windshields for the Bonanza/Baron series aircraft in metal frames and the windshields and frames are supplied as assemblies. This is a very good mounting system as no holes need to be drilled through the windshield itself for mounting. It fits in the channel of the frame and is allowed to "float," allowing for expansion and contraction. Beech offers no windshields thicker than 1/4" (.250").

The LP Aero Plastics, Inc. Mod: When Beryl D'Shannon installs a windshield, the frame is discarded and the new windshield is installed by drilling many holes through the conversion windshield and a combination of sealant/adhesive and screws is used to mount it in the aircraft. This method is generally inferior to the original frame-mount system because the holes tend to start cracks. Unfortunately, once the windshield frame is discarded, damaged, or is otherwise unusable, the only replacement or conversion option is the screw-mount windshield. LP Aero Plastics obtained this STC solely to be able to offer replacement windshields for those aircraft modified by Beryl D'Shannon, and for those few with damaged windshield frames. The LP Aero P/N 269.xxx is a much better choice for extra-thick conversions or replacement because it reuses the original Beech windshield frame, and no holes need to be drilled in the windshield (see the STC Mod Fact Sheet for P/N 269.xxx).

How to Determine if a Beryl D'Shannon Windshield Has Been Installed:

Options Available: Thicknesses of 1/4" (.250"), 3/8" (.375"), or ½" (.500") in Clear, Green, or Solar Gray Tints.
