The Original Design: Piper provided a vent or “storm” window only on the pilot’s (left) side. These small openable windows are useful for communication with ground personnel and for cabin ventilation. On early aircraft, these vent windows had a metal frame but later aircraft were equipped with “frameless” vent windows.
The LP Aero Plastics, Inc. Mo: This mod provides a matching vent or “storm” window on the right side of the aircraft (in the door window) for ventilation purposes. These window assemblies are of the “frameless” design and are available in 1/8″ (.125″), 3/16″ (.187″), and 1/4″ (.250″) thicknesses (See the Extra-Thick Side Window STC Fact Sheet). They are available only as assemblies (main window, vent window, hinge and latch, completely assembled) because cutting a vent opening accurately in an existing window on the aircraft is very difficult. Also, the existing window may be too thin to accept the new vent. All STC paperwork is included with the parts. The part number suffix after the period (.) represents the window thickness, for example P/N 117.125WV, 944.250WV, 964.187WV, etc.
Competitive Information: No other companies offer a similar STC mod.
Options Available: Thicknesses of 1/8″, 3/16″, and 1/4″ are available, along with Clear, Green, or Solar Gray Tints.
